A History of Nepali Cricket Team


For every Nepalese who love their national cricket team, we present most of the important events and achievements of our national Nepali cricket team in a timeline.
1920s -- Introduction of cricket in Nepal by Ranas who returned after studying in India and England.
1946 -- Cricket Association of Nepal was formed
1961 -- Cricket Association of Nepal became part of the National Sports Council
1988 -- got Affiliate membership of the International Cricket Council
1996 -- got associate membership of the International Cricket Council
1996 -- National side played for the first time, in the ACC trophy in Kuala Lumpur (finished 4th beating Brunei and Japan)
1998 -- hosted ACC trophy at kritipur grounds (Nepal didn't win any match in this tournament)
2000 -- U-19 team finished 4th in U-19 world cup ; Nepal senior team reached semi finals of ACC trophy
2001 -- participated in the ICC TROPHY for the first and, to date, only time. (defeated Germany and Gibraltar)
2002 -- finished as runner up in ACC trophy
2003 -- hosted and won the ACC Emerging Nations Tournament
2004 -- played first class cricket for the first time in Intercontinental Cup (defeated Malaysia but didn't reach semifinal)
2004 -- finished fifth in ACC trophy
2005 -- beat the UAE and drew with Hong Kong in the ICC Intercontinental Cup, but missed out on qualification for the semi-finals by half a point
2005 -- finished as runners-up to the UAE in the ACC Fast Track Nations Tournament
2006 -- played Namibia in a play-off match to decide the final team in the ICC intercontinental cup (didn't qualify)
2006 -- toured Pakistan, playing against the Pakistan Cricket Academy
2006 -- finished fourth in the ACC trophy but won ACC premiere league
2007 -- Semi finalist in ACC 20-20 cup
2008 -- lost their semi-final in division 5 cricket to lose a chance to play 2011 cricket world cup

2008 -- finished fourth in ACC trophy
2008 -- women cricket team defeated Malaysia by seven wickets to clinch the first ACC Under-19 Women's Championship
2009 -- finished fifth in ACC 20-20 cup
2010 -- finished as runner-up in ACC trophy
2010 -- won first major tournament defeating USA in WCL division five
2010 -- Nepali girls defended the ACC U-19 Women’s Championship title defeating Bhutan by five wickets
